VERY disapointing after such great reviews, our problem is, we bought it in a store that we are no longer near and to ship it back would cost us the price of a new one. Now we have to wiggle it and when it powers up either tape the plug OR dont move it. Damn shame. We purchased this portable DVD player after our friends told us how it kept their daughter quiet on a long flight. We bought one and tried it at home first. It worked great, at first, then the walll socket power cable stopped charging the unit and then the same thing happened with the car charger.
But this toy is supposed to hold up to the average 3yr-old. I'm furious just as I see other's are also. This toy started off as a great christmas gift but now that I'm about to take my son on a 22hr. Now I don't know what to do because I don't have time to send it back and I'm not going to buy another one only to reach the same fate. Fisher Price needs to take these things off the shelf if they aren't fool proof. train trip back North, it refuses to work or charge. Yes he dropped it and yes he's rough.
Even when we weren't talking that loudly the highest volume level wasn't enough. She ended up using my ipod headphones and it all worked perfectly.Mind you without headphones the volume on the actual device has a perfect range of volume. Bought this product for my daughter for christmas when she was 2, she's now 3 and can work it entirely by herself. We use it for long road trips and set her up in her car seat with a few dvd's and she's in seventh heaven.I tried buying some children headphones (where the volume only goes to a certain level) but they were actually not loud enough. We wanted her to be able to listen to her movie while we listened to music or talked.
Within one hour, the image started to freeze and the system reset to loading the disk. We'll see. I tought it was pricey, but seemed durable and fun for my 2 1/2 yr old.
my child did not even touch it. Also, the screen is so minuscule that only a child can really watch anything on it. So I returned it and got a new unit.
I purchased this item in our local Toys R Us for $178. So dissaponting. I wish I had purchased a normal DVD player, instead of this.
I charged it overnight and gave it a try. I tried several DVDs with the same result.
If you do buy this toy from a "primary" retailer then you can get your money back for 2 years which is pretty good. I bought this off of ebay and it was a great toy when it worked. There is also no lock on the DVD compartment so littler siblings can open it too easily. The only other thing was the screen is a little small. One day (about 90 days after purchase) my son tried turning it on and the screen was dark and the dvd was not moving. I learned my lesson buying it on ebay - the warranty is no good.
